11 women get reserved seats in both national and provincial assemblies

ISLAMABAD: Of the 60 women elected to the National Assembly on reserved seats, 11 have also been elected on reserved seats in the provincial assemblies, with a choice to opt for only one of the houses.

According to data released by the Election Commission, three women from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) – Tahira Aurangzeb, Shehnaz Saleem and Parveen Masood Bhatti, all from Punjab – and eight from the Pakistan People’s Party – Farzana Raja, Justice (r) Fakharun Niza Khokar, Fauzia Habib, Yasmeen Rehman and Shakeela Khanum Rasheed from Punjab, and Farah Naz Isphani, Shugufta Jummani, Dr Mahreen Razaq Bhutto from Sindh – have been given one reserved seat each in the national and provincial assemblies.

Elected on general seats: The women are required to opt for one house and the next party nominee in line will fill the vacated seat.

Tahmina Daultana of the PML-N and Sumaira Malik of the PML-Quaid have won the general elections (Daultana from NA-169, and Malik from NA-69) are also on their parties’ list of nominees for reserved seats for women. Daultana is on top of the PML-N list and Malik in the third place in the PML-Q list of nominees.

The Pir Pagara-led Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) has secured only one seat reserved for women, given to its non-Muslim nominee Reena Kumari.
